Not sure what level to enroll your child in?  This page will give a brief description to each level DYH offers. If you still have questions, please do not hesitate to contact dyhregistrar@gmail.com or any Eboard/Board of Directors member.

Learn to Skate (LTS)
Learn to Skate teaches kids how to skate. Coaches divide the ice into 2-3 sections for different abilities. Milk crates (not provided by DYH) can be used when starting out before progressing to unassisted skating.  Hockey sticks are introduced when players have developed required strength, footwork, and balance on skates. LTS is for kids 8 & under and meets every Sunday morning for 50 minutes!

Hockey 101
Not everyone learns to skate when he or she is 3 or 4 years old.  Hockey 101 was created to give beginner skaters in the 8-10 year old range a chance to learn fundamental skills in a fun learning environment with experienced coaches.  Hockey 101 is an instructional program run in concert with Learn to Skate and is delivered in 8-week sessions.  When sufficient skill and interest is developed, skaters have the chance to move to the appropriate DYH travel programs.

Learn to Play Hockey
Learn to Play Hockey is for those who have skating ability and are ready to work with their sticks. This program is the next step after LTS and the first step in USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM). This consists of being on the ice 3 times per week.  A weekday practice will be with just the DYH team. The weekends consist of skill sessions on Saturdays and cross-ice games on Sundays. Learn to Play is for kids 8 & under (with some exceptions).

Mites
The Mite program is the second step in the USA Hockey ADM program.  This program is a travel program that consists of 1-2 team practices during the week and a game at an area ice rink on the weekends.  The first 15 games will be half-ice games and the last 10 games will be full-ice games.  The Mite program is primarily for 7 & 8 year olds.

Squirt - Midget
The Squirt through Midget programs are travel programs that consist of 2-3 team practices and 1-2 games each week. The age ranges for each level are as follows: Squirts - 9/10; Peewee - 11/12; Bantam - 13/14; Midget - 15+.
